Two teams headed in seemingly opposite directions meet today in Week 16. The Pittsburgh Steelers lost their past three games, while the Cincinnati Bengals won all three of their past games. Oddly enough, the Steeler's last win came against the Bengals, and vice versa for Cincinnati.
Each team will look a little different, though, on both sides of the ball.
The Steelers will start Mason Rudolph at quarterback ahead of Mitchell Trubisky with Kenny Pickett still nursing an ankle injury and will also be without safeties Minkah Fitzpatrick and Damontae Kazee. Pittsburgh ruled Fitzpatrick out for Week 16 after he suffered a knee injury this past week in the loss to the Indianapolis Colts, while Kazee was suspended for the rest of the year – including any postseason games – after he was ejected for a helmet hit on Colts wideout Michael Pittman. The league cited Kazee's repeated violations of the NFL's health and safety rules as reasons for his suspension.
The Bengals aren't nearly as depleted overall, but the team will likely be without star wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase this week. Chase reportedly suffered a shoulder injury in Cincinnati's overtime win over the Minnesota Vikigns and is expected to miss at least this week – and possible more, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. That's one less target for Browning on offense, but the Bengals still have a solid collection of skill position players in wideouts Tee Higgins and Tyler Boyd as well as dynamic running backs Joe Mixon and Chase Brown.
Edge rusher T.J. Watt and the rest of the Steelers defense will have their work cut out in Week 16. While Watt is a Defensive Player of the Year candidate, Pittsburgh's defense as a whole has allowed 75 points over its three losses, which includes games against the downtrodden Arizona Cardinals and New England Patriots. No Fitzpatrick or Kazee in the secondary makes things even harder.
The Bengals defense hasn't been much better – they rank 20th in points allowed this year – but the unit has forced four turnovers over the past two games and just 9-of-24 third-down conversations as well.
