The Seahawks sat in a fascinating position at No. 5 overall in the 2023 NFL Draft.

One of the league's most ambitious drafting teams had two picks in the first round, one from the Broncos in the Russell Wilson trade and their own pick at No. 20. Indeed, the Seahawks have an embarrassment of riches, and with quarterback Geno Smith playing his way into a three-year, $75 million contract, they have options.

With that in mind, Seattle could well have been the belle of the ball if a team was looking to move up for a non-quarterback (QB-needy teams lined up to talk to the Cardinals). However, the Seahawks decided to stand pat, so they had some options on the board.

That's terrific news for a team that does need help at various spots in the roster. Both the offensive and defensive lines need a bit of an overhaul, and getting an option to complement D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett was also high priority.

Here's what to know about the Seahawks in the upcoming 2023 NFL Draft.

Seahawks NFL Draft needs

  • Defensive tackle: The Seahawks enjoyed strong defensive line play on the outside last year with Uchenna Nwosu and Darrell Taylor, who both had 9.5 sacks. They need help on the interior line. Seattle gave up the third-most rushing yards in the league last year; only the Bears and Texans were worse. They need someone to clog up the middle.
  • Interior offensive line: The line allowed 46 sacks last season, tied for ninth-most in the NFL. Charles Cross and Abraham Lucas are serviceable bookends at tackle, and guards Phil Haynes and Damien Lewis are back as well, but the Seahawks need to replace center Austin Blythe (retired) and guard Gabe Jackson (released).
  • Wide receiverThis position doesn't rank high on the team's list of needs, but the drop-off from D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett is steep. If there's a can't-miss prospect (say, Ohio State's Jaxon Smith-Njigba) at No. 20, don't be surprised to see the Seahawks take him.
