The Seattle Seahawks have been busy this week, both on the practice field and in the front office. Ahead of each training camp practice the team has announced a couple of roster moves, and today marks the third straight day they've made a move. This time around the team has re-signed their former second-round draft pick, safety Marquise Blair.
Blair (6-foot-1, 196 pounds) played the final two seasons of his college career at Utah, where he caught the eye of former head coach Pete Carroll. Even though he only had two interceptions and nothing else to write home about, he made enough of an impression to get selected in the second round of the 2019 NFL draft (47th overall).
That pick didn't turn out so good. Blair played 14 games as a rookie, including three starts, but injuries caught up with him in a bad way after that. He only appeared in a total of eight games over the next two years, then wound up signing with the Carolina Panthers early in the 2022 season. He was on and off their practice squad for a while and appeared in two games. Last year Blair spent some time with the Philadelphia Eagles, but a torn Achilles kept him sidelined the entire season.
To make room for him on the 90-man roster, safety Jonathan Sutherland has been waived. For now Blair will likely be in the rotation with guys who can play the slot as well as the back end along with Coby Bryant.
