The Bills on Friday placed wide receiver Sammy Watkins on injured reserve.

Watkins is not planning to have surgery, according to NFL.com, just rest for his injured foot. Coach Rex Ryan had told reporters there was "major concern" about Watkins' availability as the season progresses due to pain in his surgically repaired foot.

Watkins also missed the Bills' 33-18 win over the Cardinals last week and wasn't able to practice at all this week.

FANTASY: Week 4 wide receiver rankings — fill the Watkins void

"I don't mind doing this every week," Ryan said when asked on the possibility of Watkins playing in the future. "If Sammy can play, then obviously we want him out there. But if this is something that is hurting this young man in any way, shape or form, then absolutely I don't want him out there."

According to Ryan, Watkins might have aggravated his foot injury during a walkthrough practice last week.
