Saivion Smith injury update: Lions CB has 'no issues' with his neck after being taken off in an ambulance vs. Patriots image

Lions CB Saivion Smith appears to have avoided a severe neck injury after a scary collision with Patriots tight end Hunter Henry in the first quarter of Sunday's game.

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported Monday that while Smith is in concussion protocol, there are "no issues" with his neck.

That is good news for Smith after the frightening scene at Gillette Stadium on Sunday. Smith, 24, lay motionless for several minutes after colliding with Henry before Detroit's medical staff placed him on a back board. An ambulance was brought onto the field to transport Smith to a local hospital.

Smith's Lions teammates gathered around him as he was carried into the ambulance. According to Fox's broadcast, one of Smith's relatives was allowed to leave the stands and enter the ambulance with Smith.

Detroit announced that Smith was transported to a local hospital to undergo testing for a neck injury. And while many were worried about him, he indicated on Twitter after the game Sunday that he would be OK.

This is Smith's first season with the Lions. He was previously a part of Dallas, Denver and San Francisco's practice squads.
