Ryan Fitzpatrick, one of the most pleasant surprises of the season, would like to keep it going in 2016 with the New York Jets if they’ll have him.

“I’d love to be back,” Fitzpatrick said Tuesday (via the New York Post).

Head coach Todd Bowles already said he wants Fitzpatrick — a free agent at the end of the season — and his beard back next season, doing nothing but singing his praises.

“He’s very intelligent. He can make you feel at home and he’s a funny guy,” Bowles told the Post. “He can make you feel like you want to play hard for him. He just has that personality that everybody gravitates towards.”

Fitzpatrick, 33, has taken full advantage of having two top-flight wide receivers, Eric Decker and Brandon Marshall, passing for 3,129 yards so far in 2015 with a career-high 25 touchdowns for his sixth team in 10 seasons.

Fitzpatrick isn’t getting ahead of himself, however, knowing he has three games left in the season with the hopes of getting the 8-5 Jets in the playoffs. A trip to the postseason would certainly endear him even further in New York and help him avoid a seventh team next season.

“It’s great, but I’m focused at the task at hand,” he said. “Things change so quickly in the NFL.”
