The Jets have had just about enough of Ryan Fitzpatrick's contract delay, and if it keeps up much longer, the veteran quarterback won't have a job in New York.

"There comes a point, but we're not at that point yet," coach Todd Bowles told reporters Wednesday. "If it's Week 4 in training camp and he's not here, you know who your starter is going to be Week 1.

"It's to the extreme, but there's a ticking clock. You have time until you don't have time."

If Fitzpatrick wants it, the job is his, as Bowles clearly stated. Geno Smith is in line to start right now, but he has yet to prove himself in the league.

New York has a three-year, $24 million contract on the table, which is close to the three-year, $21 million contract Chase Daniel signed this offseason. The veteran feels like he's worth more money, but the Jets haven't caved in to his demands.

If Fitzpatrick doesn't return to the Jets this season, the team could look to add a veteran.

"We'll entertain that," Bowles said Wednesday.

The free-agent market isn't exactly loaded with talent, but no other quarterback on the Jets' roster besides Smith has regular-season experience.
