The Packers are prepared to have a new-look receiving corps in 2022 after trading their No. 1 receiver Davante Adams to the Raiders during the offseason.
Adams' departure was expected to create a major competition in the receiving corps. The likes of Allen Lazard, Sammy Watkins, Randall Cobb and second-round rookie Christian Watson were expected to be the main competitors for the starting jobs, but to begin camp, another dark horse starter candidate has emerged.
That would be Romeo Doubs. The fourth-round rookie out of Nevada has performed well during training camp so far in increased opportunities, as Watkins and Watson have been sidelined at times with minor injuries. He appears to be winning the trust of Aaron Rodgers, who has been complimentary of the rookie's skill set ahead of their first preseason contest.
“It’s never been too big for him," Rodgers said of Doubs, per Packers Wire. "I really like the approach. He’s a very humble kid, but you’re starting to see the personality come out a little bit, which is fun to see. He’s had a lot of opportunities, which has been great. With Sammy not practicing a couple of days, and Christian being out, a lot of opportunities for him, and he’s made the most of it."
Rodgers developing chemistry with Doubs could be good news for the rookie's chances of getting on the field in 2022. Here's everything to know about him as he looks to earn a spot in the Packers' starting lineup and emerge as a fantasy football sleeper.

Who is Romeo Doubs?
Doubs is a wide receiver who the Packers selected in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft. He was the 132nd player chosen in the draft and the 19th receiver selected overall.
Doubs was listed as a three-star recruit by 247Sports.com and played quarterback, running back and receiver in high school. He ultimately chose to attend Nevada, where he emerged as a freshman starter and played four years for the Wolfpack.
Doubs developed well at Nevada and was named to the All-Mountain West team during his final two seasons with the team. He demonstrated great chemistry with Carson Strong and helped the big-armed quarterback put his name on the map.
Now, Doubs will hope to make a similar impact with Rodgers. And if his college production is any indication, he should perform well even as a rookie.

Romeo Doubs stats at Nevada
Doubs burst onto the scene at Nevada with his first collegiate touch being an 80-yard punt return touchdown. He averaged 12.5 yards per punt return in college, but his more impressive performance came at receiver.
In each of his last two seasons with the Wolfpack, Doubs logged over 1,000 yards. He increased his reception, yardage and touchdown totals in each of his four college seasons.
Below is a year-by-year breakdown of Doubs' stats at Nevada from 2018 through 2021:
Year | Games | Catches | Yards | TDs | Yards per catch |

Romeo Doubs highlights
Below is a look at some of Doubs' catches from the 2021 college football season. He shows off his solid speed, smooth hands, jump-ball ability and separation skills throughout the duration of the video.
Romeo Doubs 40 time
Doubs didn't perform the 40-yard dash at the 2022 NFL Combine, instead opting to wait for his pro day. He put up a respectable time, completing it in 4.47 seconds. That would have tied for 16th among combine participants along with Steelers draft pick George Pickens, who is also having a strong start to his camp.
As such, it doesn't seem that Doubs has elite speed, but he still has more than enough to be a downfield threat at the NFL level.

What Aaron Rodgers, Packers have said about Romeo Doubs
Rodgers has never been one to hide his feelings about receivers that he likes, and Doubs is no exception. The 38-year-old quarterback even implied Doubs could emerge as one of the top receivers in Packers history if he continues to perform well.
Every single day, there’s been at least one ‘wow’ play [from Doubs]. And that’s rare for a young guy like that. We’ve had some guys over the years do that, but they are all in the top 10 of Packers receiving history. Good start for him.
One of the things that has stood out the most about Doubs is that he has fared well against cornerback Eric Stokes in practice. Stokes, a first-round pick in 2021, was stellar as a rookie, yet as Matt Schneidman of The Athletic pointed out, Doubs roasted him in a one-on-one rep at practice.
Rodgers also took notice of Doubs' rep and brought it up while praising him.
"It’s not just the team stuff. I thought he ran good routes yesterday in the one-on-ones against Stokes," Rodgers said. "It’s just a matter of the mental stuff. He’s still making some mental mistakes, but you expect those. It’s the approach, his release patterns, he catches the ball with his hands."
Rodgers wasn't the only Packers quarterback impressed by Doubs' hands. Jordan Love noted that Doubs' contested catch ability was part of the reason for his early success. It's also part of why Love and Rodgers have enjoyed throwing to him.
“Just the way he’s catching the ball. He’s making those contested catches, and those tough plays, he’s making them look easy," Love said, per Packers Wire. "And it’s not easy to do."
Long-time NFL receiver Randall Cobb agreed with that assessment, calling Doubs' ability to grab 50-50 balls something "you can't coach."
When it’s thrown up and it’s between him and the DB to make a play. That’s one thing you can’t coach. You can’t really teach that. You either have it or you don’t, and he has it. That’s special.
Certainly, Doubs appears to be impressing all of the right people at this early stage of Packers training camp. It's too early to say that he will definitely be a starter, but if he parlays a strong training camp into a strong preseason, he should cement himself as one of Rodgers' favorite targets.
