Cowboys linebacker Rolando McClain has been suspended indefinitely without pay for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy, the league announced Friday.
The news follows a report from last month that McClain had been served a year-long suspension after missing another drug test.

McClain’s previous 10-game suspension for testing positive ended Nov. 21, but Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said the player would not be back on the team even though his punishment expired.
A positive test for an opiate known as "purple drank," a combination of Sprite, cough syrup and codeine, reportedly was the reason for that suspension.
McClain’s return to the NFL appears doubtful and most certainly a long way off.
