Report: Panthers trade linebacker Jon Beason to Giants image

The New York Giants agreed to acquired linebacker Jon Beason from the Carolina Panthers on Thursday for a conditional late-round draft pick, the New York Post reported.

The deal is pending a physical, which Beason will take Friday morning. Beason, 28, played just four games last season after undergoing microfracture surgery on his right knee following an Achilles' tendon tear.

He lost his middle linebacker job to Luke Kuechly last season and was recently replaced on the weak side by former Giants linebacker Chase Blackburn.

Beason became the highest-paid middle linebacker in the NFL in 2011 when the Panthers signed him to a five-year, $50 million contract. The deal voids at the end of this season. He's making $1 million this year.
