No running back in football has been hotter than Derrick Henry over the last two weeks.
The Titans' (8-6) playoff hopes may rest on the legs of Henry, who has carried the team to consecutive wins and finds himself with a legitimate shot at a 1,000-yard season. Tennessee is tied with Baltimore and Indianapolis for the No. 6 seed in the AFC, although it does not own the tiebreaker.
Henry has run for 408 yards and six touchdowns over his last two games, close to half of his season total in those categories. His Titans will take the field against the depleted Redskins (7-7) on Saturday.
The Redskins remain in the playoff hunt and sit just a half game behind the Vikings for a spot in the postseason. They saved their season last week by sneaking out a 16-13 win over the Jaguars to end a four-game losing streak, but their once-promising campaign has come at a price. Quarterbacks Alex Smith and Colt McCoy have suffered season-ending injuries, and third-stringer Mark Sanchez has had his share of struggles, giving Josh Johnson, who had played in just 28 games in his career — all but two coming between 2009-11 — before this season, the reigns at quarterback.
Whichever team loses Saturday will likely find its playoff hopes all but over.
