Jared Veldheer's time with the Patriots didn't last long.
The veteran offensive lineman participated in one day of OTAs and then informed the Patriots on Tuesday he is planning to retire a mere eight days after signing with New England, ESPN.com reported, citing an unidentified source.

Veldheer, 31, signed a one-year, $3.5 million deal with New England on May 13. The deal could have been worth as much as $6.5 million by the end of the season, according to The Boston Globe.
He would have made at least $1.25 million even if he had been cut during training camp.
Originally drafted by the Raiders in the third round out of Hillsdale College in 2010, he then moved on to play for the Cardinals in 2014 and then the Broncos last season.
He had not played a full season since 2015 when he started all 16 games for the Cardinals.
The Patriots' offensive tackle spot now has an interesting look to it as Isaiah Wynn is at the top of the unofficial depth chart after missing all of 2018 with an injury and rookie Yodny Cajuste is up there as well.
