It looks like Ray Rice won’t resurface in the desert.

A source with the Cardinals told AZCentral.com the team is not interested in signing the former Ravens running back to replace leading rusher Chris Johnson, who was placed on injured reserve Monday with a fractured tibia.

Some speculated the Cardinals might turn to Rice, who hasn't played since 2013 after video of his assault on his then-fiancee in an Atlantic City casino elevator surfaced during the offseason. He was suspended indefinitely by the NFL and released by the Ravens on Sept. 8, 2013. Rice later filed a wrongful-termination grievance against the team, and the sides settled for a reported $1.588 million last January.

Rice's name has continually surfaced in the rumor mill as injuries to teams' starting running backs piled up through the season, but no team has felt Rice's past is worth the hassle.

The Cardinals chose instead to activate Kerwynn Williams from their practice squad to fill Johnson's roster spot.
