Ravens take flier on QB Ryan Mallett; team undecided on Sunday starter image

Ryan Mallett will be returning to the NFL after a newsworthy departure from the Texans earlier this season.

The Ravens will sign Mallett to a deal worth up to $2.5 million in 2016, according to NFL Media.

ESPN was first to report a deal was in the works.

With Joe Flacco out for the season and Matt Schaub injured, the Ravens struggled behind Jimmy Clausen in Sunday’s 35-6 drubbing against the Seahawks. Former UNC QB Bryn Renner is the only other healthy QB listed on Baltimore's roster.

"I don’t know right now. We’ll see," coach John Harbaugh said when asked about who would start Sunday against the Chiefs.

Mallett was bounced from the Texans’ roster in October for behavioral issues, most notably missing a team flight to Miami after reportedly oversleeping.
