Rams wide receiver Van Jefferson and his wife called an audible after their son was born on a Super Bowl Sunday.
They scrapped their original choices for the child's name and went instead with something to commemorate the Rams' victory over the Bengals in Super Bowl 56.
"We were really thinking about Wynn and Miles but then it was like, I think it’s very fitting to name him Champ," Jefferson told ESPN's "The Adam Schefter Podcast" (via Yahoo Sports). "And we just looked it up and Champ is like a warrior. And my wife is a warrior. What she did that whole game and what she did throughout the whole week of the Super Bowl, the week of Super Bowl being so crazy, he's a champ and she's a warrior, so Champ Curtis Jefferson. That’s the name we got."

Jefferson's wife, Samaria, went into labor during the game, which Los Angeles won 23-20. She was wheeled out of SoFi Stadium and taken to the hospital. Jefferson was informed of that development after the game by a Rams public relations staffer.
He told Schefter he had to watch the delivery on FaceTime because he got stuck in traffic.
A week later, Jefferson was still marveling at what happened.
"I don't think anything will be able to top this, for sure," Jefferson told Schefter.
