Why is Raiders vs. Steelers on NFL Network?
As the college football regular season wraps up each year, Saturdays become wide open on the sports calendar. The NFL has taken advantage of this for decades by playing some of its late-season games on Saturday rather than keeping everything on the usual Sunday afternoon slate.
In addition, Christmas falls on a Sunday this year. Rather than force the majority of the teams to play games on Christmas Day, the league made the decision to move 11 of the 16 matchups this week to Saturday.
Raiders vs. Steelers in Week 16 has been slotted for prime time since the schedule was released. However, because there are already "Thursday Night Football," "Sunday Night Football" and "Monday Night Football" games lined up for this week, the broadcasting rights fall to the NFL Network.
