In a new mock from ESPN, the Las Vegas Raiders get aggressive in the second round of the 2024 NFL draft and trade up for their next franchise quarterback.
Before that, ESPN's Field Yates has Las Vegas staying put at No. 13 overall and drafting Oregon State offensive tackle, Taliese Fuaga, who would shore up the Raiders' need at right tackle. Some analysts believe he could play guard at the next level, also.
The Raiders then pull off a trade at the top of the second round with the Washington Commanders to move up to No. 36 overall to select Washington signal-caller, Michael Penix Jr.
Yates doesn't go into full detail about what the trade involves, but it does include the Raiders' No. 44 pick.
This is a realistic scenario for the Raiders, as Penix Jr. figures to still be on the board early Day 2 but may require a trade up to snag him with some other quarterback-needy teams in the area.
The Raiders already have at least some interest in the Washington product, with both sides reportedly set for a 30 visit ahead of the draft.
It remains to be seen if the Raiders are going to make a move up in the first round to grab one of the top-tier quarterbacks, but if not, Penix Jr. would be a solid consolation prize in the second.
