Las Vegas Raiders owner Mark Davis, who also owns the WNBA's Las Vegas Aces that are currently under investigation from the league for a recent sponsorship deal with its players, has broken his silence on the matter.
The sponsorship deal, which comes from the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority and pays all 12 players of the team $100,000 each, is under investigation for possibly violating the league's collective bargaining agreement.
In a nutshell, the concern is that the Raiders are going around the hard $1.4 million salary cap to pay their players more money, which could create a competitive disadvantage.
Davis has claimed there is no wrongdoing, per Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports.
"There was absolutely nothing done wrong," Davis said while at the Spring Meetings in Nashville "And I think it's sad that they used the word investigation instead of something a little softer to say, 'Hey we might look into it' or whatever.
"But they're going to find there's nothing wrong."
Davis also argues that finding ways to pay women basketball players more money will prevent them from having to go overseas, which, in turn, will allow them to contribute even more to the community year round.
"I'm just really proud of (the LVCVA) for doing it and recognizing the value that the women bring to the community," Davis said. "If in fact we can get them hundreds of thousands of dollars or get into the millions of dollars for all the players, they can stay in the community. They don't have to go overseas to play.
"They'll have the resources to stay to work in the community, work with young kids and all of that. And that's the vision I have for growing the league. Obviously, there are ways that we can't compensate them, but there's also third parties that can."
