Jon Gruden continues to be a fan of Nathan Peterman.

The 25-year-old, who is competing for the Raiders' backup quarterback spot behind Derek Carr, once again received praise from his coach Tuesday.

“I’m afraid to bring up Peterman’s name with media today,” Gruden told reporters, via the San Francisco Chronicle. “Look at it yourself. He’s hitting 75% of his passes. The ones that are incomplete are dropped. I mean, he runs, he passes, he’s making audibles. He’s getting better and he’s getting some confidence. He’s in the mix. I like him. I know other people that do, too.”

Peterman is 40-of-57 passing while throwing for 317 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions in three preseason appearances in 2019.

Gruden said late last month Peterman "was growing" on him.

“He’s athletic," Gruden said at the time. "I know he has had some nightmare performances in the NFL but, when you watch the film you can see why. It’s not all his fault. He has some talent. He has some athleticism and experience. ... He’s smart and has done a good job."

Peterman played in four games and made two starts for Buffalo in 2018, throwing seven interceptions and just one touchdown. He said he has "absolutely" gained confidence during his time with Oakland.

“I don’t know if there’s something to measure it by,” Peterman said Tuesday. “But always trying to get better every time I come out on the field. That’s definitely my hope.”

The Raiders have one preseason game remaining before they host the Broncos in Week 1 action Sept. 9.
