With the Oakland Raiders in playoff contention and Derek Carr a candidate for NFL MVP award, the team is ready to write its quarterback a huge check, according to ESPN.com.
Signing Carr to an extension is high on Oakland’s off-season agenda, and a source tells ESPN the Raiders are expected to offer Carr a “Luck-ish" deal. That refers to the five-year, $123 million contract Andrew Luck signed with the Colt this past summer.

Such a deal would make Carr one of the highest paid quarterbacks in the league. According to a list of QB contracts on spotrac.com, Luck’s deal ranks second in the NFL in terms of total value (Jay Cutler’s contract with the Bears is first at $126.7 million), and at $24,594 million per year, first in annual average.
Through his first eight games this season, Carr, whose current Raiders contract expires in 2018, has completed 66.3 percent of his passes for 2,321 yards and 17 TDs to just three interceptions.
