The biggest move the Las Vegas Raiders made this offseason was the signing of defensive lineman Christian Wilkins, who has impressed his teammates thus far.
One of those teammates who is impressed with the defensive lineman is quarterback Gardner Minshew, who called Wilkins the team's biggest standout of organized team activities thus far.
“I’d say Christian Wilkins,” Minshew said, per Levi Damien of Raiders Wire. “That dude is running so fast every single play. Wherever the ball is, don’t look, like, you’ll see him soon. It’s really impressive being around a guy that’s nonstop working the way he does.”
But Wilkins' play hasn't been the only thing standing out. Defensive end Malcolm Koonce noted that Wilkins' personality has really shined, also.
“He’s definitely a character,” Koonce said. “He definitely brings another personality to the room and stuff like that. He’s enjoyable to be around. He’s a great guy.”
Despite having a 6-foot-4, 301-pound frame, Wilkins has impressive athleticism, and so much so that linebackers coach Mike Caldwell joked he might have to borrow him in his position group.
“He had a play the other day where he might need to be in my room,” Caldwell said. “He’s so athletic and he plays with so much passion he’s like a linebacker in so many ways. He’s active and has a great motor . . .We’re just excited to have him here.”
According to Levi Edwards of Raiders.com, Wilkins was one of the standouts during the team's final open session of OTAs.
On the defensive side of the ball, Christian Wilkins was everything as advertised. His get off at the line of scrimmage is something to marvel at and noticeably assists the edge rushers next to him.
Wilkins was a huge addition, as not only does he present an upgrade in run defense, he's a big plus as a pass-rusher. Along with Maxx Crosby and Koonce, the Raiders' defensive line is shaping up to be special in 2024.
