A pair of struggling teams, the Raiders and 49ers, are both in dire need of a victory and will meet on "Thursday Night Football" in Week 9.
It's been tough sledding for Oakland (1-6) so far this season. Thursday will mark its second game without wide receiver Amari Cooper, who was dealt to Dallas. The Raiders fell to the Colts last week, 42-28, but they got a strong performance from quarterback Derek Carr, who threw three touchdowns. Running back Doug Martin also put together his best game of the season, averaging 5.5 yards per carry in relief of Marshawn Lynch, who is on injured reserve.
San Francisco (1-7) has not been the same since QB Jimmy Garoppolo went down with a season-ending knee injury in Week 3. Backup C.J. Beathard has been serviceable at times, but he is coming off of his worst performance of the year in an 18-15 loss to the Cardinals. Beathard completed only half of his passes, and 12 of his 14 completions went to just two different receivers. The 49ers are riding a six-game losing streak, but they will return home to the site of their one win.
Both the Raiders and 49ers sit in last place in their respective divisions and are well out of playoff spots, so Thursday represents an opportunity to get their seasons back on the right foot.
