A former Philadelphia Eagles running back has decided to hang up the cleats.
Rashaad Penny, currently a member of the Carolina Panthers, informed head coach Dave Canales of the decision early this week.
“Rashaad Penny has decided to retire,” Canales said, according to Mike Kaye of The Charlotte Observer. “He felt like he wasn’t himself … And I wish Rashaad the best.”
Penny spent one year with the Eagles, appearing in three games last season and rushing for 33 yards with one reception. The veteran couldn’t break into the rotation dominated by D'Andre Swift. He was originally a first-round pick by Seattle in 2018 and eventually followed Canales from the Seahawks to the Panthers.
Now 28 years old, Penny finished with 1,951 yards and 13 scores on a 5.6 per-carry average over 45 games.
