The New England Patriots have been working on the practice fields behind Gillette Stadium during training camp to make sure their players are put in the best position to succeed in 2024 and beyond.
At the same time, New England is also trying to ensure that they have the best players out there that they can get.
On Thursday, the Patriots worked out offensive tackle Kellen Diesch before signing defensive tackle Mike Purcell. And, on Friday, ESPN's Mike Reiss reported that they're expected to sign him.
Diesch, 26, played collegiately at both Texas A&M (2016-19) and Arizona State (2020-21) before going undrafted in the 2022 NFL draft.
He was signed by the Miami Dolphins as a rookie but failed to make the roster out of camp. He spent his entire rookie season on the Chicago Bears practice squad and all of 2023 on the Pittsburgh Steelers practice squad.
Diesch was claimed by the Cleveland Browns earlier this offseason, but he was waived again with a failed physical designation. He's yet to play a snap in a regular season game.
The Patriots don't exactly have the best group of tackles, so it's not surprising that they're trying to see what's available on the market even after the start of camp.
