The New England Patriots may have added players to their wide receiver this offseason through free agency and the draft, but they could still use a true top receiver in the group.
A few veteran receivers around the leagues are still going through contract negotiations, which could lead to their departure via a trade to another franchise.
One receiver who is going back and forth with his current team is San Francisco 49ers wideout Brandon Aiyuk. The 26-year-old is entering the final season of his rookie deal (a fifth-year option that will pay him $14.12 million in guaranteed salary).
While Aiyuk has voiced his displeasure with his contract, in a recent appearance on "The Pivot" podcast, the wide receiver said he still believes that he'll remain with the 49ers.
"If I were to take a guess, probably a Niners uniform," Aiyuk said when asked what jersey he'll be wearing this season. "Probably a Niners uniform, but if not a Niners uniform, probably a Washington Commander uniform. If not a Washington Commanders uniform, then probably a Steelers uniform.
"I feel like right now I'm in the right place, in the right spot, with the right quarterback, right now. But we're not on the right terms."
If San Francisco isn't willing to give Aiyuk the money he thinks he deserves, New England has the draft capital to make a trade work and the cap space to give him a new deal.
While the Patriots weren't one of the teams that Aiyuk mentioned during that discussion on the podcast, they should be involved in any trade talks.
