While the New England Patriots, along with the other 31 teams around the NFL, are preparing for the upcoming draft, the franchise also hits the field for Phase 2 of their offseason program on Monday.
According to the NFL's website, teams during Phase 1 can hold meetings as well as strength and conditioning and rehab sessions.
Now, as Jerod Mayo's team enters Phase 2 for the next three weeks, they'll be able to hold individual on-field workouts as well as team drills done as walkthroughs. Teams are not allowed to have live contact or run offense-defense team drills.
The Patriots have a lot of work to do if they want to improve on their 4-13 record that landed them the third overall pick in Thursday's draft, and these weeks of meetings and on-field work are where the base is built.
Players begin to learn what's expected of them in their schemes, which this year are new with a new head coach and new coordinators. If they pick it up quickly, they will be set up for success when the season rolls around.
