The New England Patriots have their veterans back in the building on Tuesday before the start of training camp on Wednesday outside of Gillette Stadium, but there was a question about whether some players would show up.
Patriots defenders Matthew Judon and Davon Godchaux are both unhappy with their contract situations, so it was unknown whether or not they'd report to camp. However, Mayo answered that in his morning media availability.
"Everyone's here," Mayo said. "[I'm] happy about that. These guys are ready to rock. It's a good thing."
When asked specifically about Judon and Godchaux, he gave some more insight.
"Look, the relationship is still good, at least from my perspective," Mayo. "I know their teammates definitely respect them. Those are valuable pieces of this organization, and they've done a lot for us. Hopefully, we can get something done, and those guys are here. I want them here. Eliot [Wolf] wants them here. The team wants them here. There is a business aspect to everything though."
Even though they're in the building, does that mean Judon and Godchaux will be out on the field?
"It's always the expectation that if you're here, you're gonna go out there and practice and you're gonna compete," Mayo said.
Both players are headed into the final years of their deal with Judon set to make up to $7.5 million in 2024 and Godchaux set to make $8.3 million,
