New England Patriots wide receiver Tyquan Thornton hasn't exactly had the best start to his career as a second-round pick out of Baylor.
Over his first two seasons, Thornton has recorded just 35 receptions for 338 yards and two touchdowns in 22 games, as he's battled injuries.
Heading into his third season, the 23-year-old will need to stand out or he could find himself out of a job in New England.
Before Wednesday's training camp session, Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo expressed his belief in the young wideout.
"Tyquan is one of those guys where physically he has all the tools," Mayo said. "Obviously, we all know that he can run. Now he just has to put it all together, and I feel very confident with our offensive coordinator and our receiver coaches to get him to the point where he can make an impact for our team."
Thornton ran a blazing fast 4.28-second 40-yard dash at the combine in 2022, but he hasn't been able to put that speed to use in the NFL.
If he wants to earn a roster spot in 2024, it will take more than the faith of the head coach at the start of training camp to get there. He'll have to stay healthy, get better separation and improve on securing the catch before he solidifies a place on the 53.
