The New England Patriots used pick No. 3 on North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye, securing their field general of the future.

Maye, 21, saw some success as a Tar Heel, but his skills make him a prospect worth adding with such an early selection.

The 6-foot-4 gunslinger has an incredible arm that has many comparing him to Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen, who was a project coming out of Wyoming back in 2018.

Like Allen, he can fire the ball in there, but he's also prone to making mistakes that feel avoidable.

Maye also has some impressive mobility to get out and create if necessary. That's something the Patriots haven't consistently had in quite some time.

This offseason, New England moved on from Mac Jones, their 2021 first-round pick, after some down years, leaving the room with just Jacoby Brissett, Bailey Zappe and Nathan Rourke.

It was clear that the Patriots needed to make this pick, even if they were getting tempting trade offers from other teams. It's nearly impossible to compete without the quarterback, and New England might just have one now.
