When the New England Patriots and head coach Bill Belichick mutually agreed to part ways earlier in the offseason, it put the coach back on the job market for the first time since 2000.

Belichick met with the Atlanta Falcons about their vacancy, but they instead hired Raheem Morris to lead their team, leaving Belichick without a job in coaching in 2024.

While he'll work in broadcasting this year on ESPN, one of his former players believes he knows where Belichick could be headed in 2025.

"My theory is that the Giants are ready to hire Bill Belichick in a year," former Patriots defensive end Chris Long said recently on "The Favorites" podcast. "They didn't go out and get better. It feels like they're like 'We're going to eat this Daniel Jones mistake, and figure it out in a year.' I understand the New England thing, but at least you're going offense to defense. I think Bill is a rulebreaker. With his history in New York, I can see that being a romantic idea for them."

Belichick still holds a special place in his heart for the Giants, the team that gave him his first role as a coordinator (special teams from 1979-84 and defense from 1985-90). That's also the first team that he won Super Bowls with.

Not that Belichick is in a position to turn down many jobs if he wants to keep coaching, but if New York called, he'd probably jump at the opportunity.
