The New England Patriots have more cap space than any other team in the NFL, but they're still trying to create more.
According to ESPN's Field Yates, the Patriots and offensive tackle Calvin Anderson agreed to a renegotiated contract that will reduce the base value of his deal from the original $3.35 million. This move creates $990,000 in cap space for the team.
Anderson was actually originally signed by the Patriots as an undrafted free agent back in 2019, but he was released just weeks after the draft.
New England signed Anderson to a two-year deal last year after stints with the New York Jets and Denver Broncos, but he played in just five games due to injuries.
This year, he'll have a chance to fight for the swing tackle role throughout the team's offseason program.
Hopefully, the Patriots are making this move to get as much space as they can for a trade in the near future. They have so many holes left on their roster, and acquiring a proven veteran could make things a lot easier for them going forward.
