There can be only one. And by Sunday evening, the AFC East will have its division leader — barring a tie.

Two teams in the division remain undefeated: the Patriots and the Bills. Buffalo, led by sophomore starting quarterback Josh Allen, will host the reigning Super Bowl champion Patriots and Tom Brady.

To this point, the Bills have won by narrow margins against more lackluster talent. They beat the Jets Week 1 17-16. They won against the Giants 28-14. They came back late against the Bengals 21-17. Those three teams are a combined 1-8, with the Giants picking up the win last week thanks to a comeback effort from rookie Daniel Jones.

The Patriots have won against a similarly weak slate of teams, but in much different ways. It trounced the Steelers 33-3, blanked the Dolphins 43-0 and rolled the Jets 30-14. Those teams are a combined 0-9.

But New England has established early that it is one of the premier teams on both sides of the ball. Brady continues to be an ageless wonder, having completed 72 of 106 passes for 911 yards and seven touchdowns, and both Rex Burkhead and Sony Michel have rushed for more than 100 yards. The defense has allowed the fewest yards per game at just 199 — 84.3 yards fewer than second — and it averages just 5.7 points allowed per game. The offense is fifth in yards per game (408.3) and second in points (36.7).

Meanwhile Allen, though leading the team to a spotless record, has himself been far from spotless, having completed just 66 of 103 passes for three touchdowns and interceptions a piece. He has rushed 26 times for 105 yards with two touchdowns.

The Pats opened as touchdown favorites over the hosting Bills, per Sportsbook Review. Bill Belichick's team seems to be once again one of the best in the league, if not the one in the best position to again win the Super Bowl. But the game is in Buffalo, and Sean McDermott has led Buffalo to success before — his 2017 team was the first postseason Bills team in 18 years. If his team can get the edge on Sunday, it could signal a true battle for AFC East supremacy.
