The New England Patriots had a strong defense in 2023, and they're expected to be even better in 2024.
One player who could make another leap this year is defensive lineman Christian Barmore, who's entering his fourth season and just received a massive extension.
Even veterans who are playing their first season in New England are taking notice of Barmore's impressive skills and can't wait to work with him.
"For me, being an older guy, just going into my sixth year, he's a little younger," Patriots defensive lineman Armon Watts said after their organized team activity session on Tuesday. "You wouldn't be able to tell that he's that much younger. He brings a lot to the table for us against the run and pass. When he gets it going straight, there are very few people that I feel like can block him, especially when he's in that mode. I'm excited to be able to play with him. It will only help raise my game. Rushing and playing alongside guys like that... it kind of helps you out a lot. I'm excited for it."
With Lawrence Guy departing this offseason, Barmore and Watts will be asked to step up and lead New England's defensive front.
If Barmore continues to improve and take that next step, he could be a homewrecker in the middle of this defensive line, causing havoc for opposing centers, guards and quarterbacks.
