With Tom Brady facing another retirement decision, Aaron Rodgers' future in question, and a few future Hall of Famers retiring over the last three years, there's no doubt Patrick Mahomes is becoming the NFL's premier star.

Not only does Mahomes have the numbers and accolades through five years to back that up, but he has consistently performed on the NFL's biggest stage.

Mahomes has at least one playoff win in each of his five playoff appearances, and he's jolted the Chiefs from just an AFC playoff contender into a perennial Super Bowl contender.

Patrick Mahomes playoff record

Mahomes' playoff record entering the AFC championship is 9-3

Mahomes has at least one win in all five of his playoff appearances, and a win on Sunday against the Bengals would make it four consecutive years with at least two playoff wins.

One stat demonstrates how much of an impact Mahomes has had on the Chiefs: Before he arrived, Kansas City had eight playoff wins in the Super Bowl era. Mahomes alone has led them to nine, and it feels like he's just getting started.

Mahomes has taken the Chiefs to the AFC title game in all five of his seasons as a starter, and a win over Cincinnati on Sunday would give him a winning record in the AFC championship.

Patrick Mahomes in the AFC championship

Mahomes is 2-2 all-time in AFC title games.

As a first-year starter, Mahomes helped the Chiefs battle back and even take a late lead over Tom Brady and the Patriots in the AFC championship but fell short in overtime. He won each of the next two, beating the Titans in 2019 and the Bills in 2020 on his way to back-to-back Super Bowl appearances, before blowing a 21-3 lead to the Bengals last season.

Mahomes has thrown for three touchdown passes in all four of his trips to the AFC title game. He didn't turn the ball over until last year's loss to Cincinnati.

The Chiefs have hosted all four of their AFC championship appearances with Mahomes under center, and they'll make it five on Sunday.

Patrick Mahomes playoff stats

Starts 12
Record 9-3
Completion Rate 66.7%
Yards 3,576
TD 30
INT 7
Passer Rating 106.2

Mahomes is already tied for 10th all-time in playoff touchdown passes with 30. Just 15 more would be enough for Mahomes to skyrocket into a tie for second, though Tom Brady's record of 88 is far ahead of the rest of the leaderboard.

Mahomes' 106.2 playoff passer rating is almost identical to his 105.7 regular season passer rating.

Interestingly, Mahomes' two Super Bowl appearances produced his two worst playoff performances according to the passer rating stat. That will be worth watching if he's able to propel the Chiefs to a third AFC title in four years.

Has Patrick Mahomes won a Super Bowl?

While Mahomes has thrown four interceptions in two trips to the Super Bowl, he does have a championship under his belt. The Chiefs won Super Bowl 54 over the 49ers three years ago, overcoming a fourth quarter deficit to claim their first title in 50 years.

Mahomes was named Super Bowl MVP despite the turnovers. He showed plenty of poise against a terrific 49ers defense, leading Kansas City down the field after his own mistake nearly cost the team a championship.

Mahomes' second Super Bowl appearance didn't go as smoothly. He was harassed by the Buccaneers' loaded front seven all night, throwing two interceptions in a 31-9 loss.

Mahomes is two wins away from a second championship, but it won't come easy with the Bengals and either the Eagles or 49ers in his way.
