Kansas City doesn't want to speculate how much time Patrick Mahomes might miss.
Chiefs coach Andy Reid on Monday confirmed his quarterback is progressing with his recovery but said the team won't rush him back on the field too soon.
"I don’t think you can put a timeline on this thing," Reid told reporters. "I think you just go off how he feels, and what the doctors say. I know people want a time. I don’t think you can do that with this injury.'"
Mahomes, who suffered a dislocated right kneecap Thursday against the Broncos, is expected to miss up to five weeks with the injury but could be back in as early as three. Chiefs head athletic trainer Rick Burkholder confirmed the quarterback's MRI on Friday "turned out as good as possible" while also noting Mahomes has begun his rehab.
"When you’ve been around him enough, you know that nothing is impossible with this kid — he goes 100 miles an hour, and it’s important that he listens to the doctors and the trainers and that he works hard at the same time and gets himself ready to go," Reid said. “He’s doing everything he can possibly do."
The Chiefs are hopeful Mahomes could return either in Week 11, Nov. 18 against the Chargers, or in Week 13, Dec. 1 to face the Raiders, after the team's bye.
In the meantime, 12-year veteran backup Matt Moore will continue to fill the void under center. He completed 10 of 19 passes for 117 yards and one touchdown against Denver after Mahomes got hurt.
The Chiefs (5-2) will next host the Packers (6-1) at 8:20 p.m. ET Sunday.
