Patrick Mahomes is the closest thing the NFL has to a real-life video game. So it's no surprise the Chiefs' league MVP quarterback got another huge honor on Thursday night, officially being named the cover athlete for EA Sports' "Madden NFL 20."

The latest edition of the game, to be released on Aug. 2, has been aptly dubbed the Superstar Edition. Before making your pre-order, you can check out the special features of "Madden 20," including Superstar X-Factor. The game also features a new "it's in the game" experience called "Face of the Franchise: QB1."

Mahomes is the first Kansas City player to be featured on the game cover since the series started using cover athletes in 2001. He's the eighth quarterback to get the cover, following Daunte Culpepper, Michael Vick, Donovan McNabb, Vince Young, Brett Favre, Drew Brees and Tom Brady. Mahomes succeeds '19 cover man Antonio Brown, who ended up getting traded after his final Steelers season.

Although you'll need to wait to use Mahomes to play the game until late summer on either Xbox One, Playstation 4 or Origin for PC, you don't need to wait to get pumped up for the action. You can watch EA Sports' hype video/trailer for "Madden NFL 20" right here:
