Patrick Mahomes is having a better 2020 than the rest of us.
The Chiefs quarterback and his fiancée Brittany Matthews announced Tuesday that they will be having their first child. The couple became engaged earlier this month on the same night Mahomes received his ring from Super Bowl 54. If genetics are at all predictable, the world ought to expect a great athlete with the last name Mahomes to emerge in the public eye about 20 years from now.
PATRICK MAHOMES: Relationship timeline with Brittany Matthews
Patrick Mahomes' great 2020
Mahomes began 2020 with a rampage through the NFL playoffs en route to claiming the Chiefs' second Super Bowl title. He earned Super Bowl MVP honors after throwing for 286 yards and two touchdowns while adding 29 yards on the ground and a rushing touchdown, too.
Once summer hit, Mahomes signed the richest contract in the history of U.S. team sports. The 10-year extension could pay Mahomes close to $500 million. Mahomes followed that big pay day by buying an ownership stake in the Kansas City Royals.
Then on Sept. 2, Mahomes received his Super Bowl ring before becoming engaged with Matthews later that day.
The 2020 NFL season has mostly been a breeze for Mahomes and the Chiefs, who have started off with three straight wins. Mahomes has yet to throw an interception while passing for nine touchdowns. Most recently, Mahomes and the Chiefs beat Lamar Jackson and the Ravens in a massive "Monday Night Football" showdown as Mahomes threw four scores and ran for a fifth.
Because athletes seem to play well surrounding big life announcements and Mahomes is already playing phenomenally, the Patriots could be in trouble in Week 4. Sporting News predicts the Chiefs to score five more touchdowns to beat out Cam Newton and the Pats in their next game, Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET.
