Carolina announced some roster moves Sunday as it continued to cut players to finalizes its 53-man roster, and wideout Torrey Smith was one of the casualties.

The Panthers released Smith and also waived running back Elijah Holyfield and cornerback Kevon Seymour to make room on the team.

Smith notched 17 receptions for 190 yards and two touchdowns in his lone season with Carolina in 2018. The eight-year veteran started six games for the Panthers last year, but it appears the team's receiving corps is deep enough to move on without him in 2019.

Holyfield, son of boxing legend Evander Holyfield, is an undrafted rookie out of Georgia. Carolina's coach Ron Rivera said the 21-year-old "rebounded well" after he a fumbled in his first preseason game of the year and went on to score two touchdowns in the same contest.

Reports earlier this week even suggested he would make the team, prompting his father to congratulate him via Twitter.

But he couldn't quite cut it against the versatile Christian McCaffrey and fellow rookie Jordan Scarlett.

Seymour, a three-year veteran, was released after spending his last two seasons with Carolina. He played in 15 contests in 2017 but didn't appear in a game last season.
