The Green Bay Packers and their fans held their collective breath on Friday night when starting quarterback Jordan Love went down with what looked like a knee injury late in the Week 1 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, Love suffered an MCL injury and will miss time, but how much exactly remains unclear. The good news is, Love's ACL is intact, so he should be back this season.
With Love set to miss time, the Packers will turn to quarterback Malik Willis, who is anything but a sure thing to keep Green Bay afloat. Willis showed some signs of progress during the offseason with the Tennessee Titans, but it wasn't enough for them to keep him around as their third quarterback.
Green Bay's best bet is to turn to another former Titans quarterback in Ryan Tannehill, who remains the best signal-caller on the open market by a wide margin and is definitely a better option than Willis.

It's surprising that Tannehill hasn't landed a new gig yet this offseason given the fact that he'd be a high-quality backup, at worst, for a team. But Tannehill explained why he hasn't signed with a team back in July.
"Right now, I think it's going to depend on situation," Tannehill said on the Scoop City podcast. "At this point, I've been blessed to play 12 years and be where I'm at, so I'm not just going to continue to add years to add years. I want to be in a situation that I feel really good about. I'm not ruling anything out, but it's going to have to be the right situation for me and my family."
"Nothing really felt right through free agency," he added. "And through that, I had a lot of peace with it, that nothing outstanding jumped up and I just said, hey, I'll take a step back and if something comes up down the road, whether that's training camp — maybe a guy goes down on a team and gives me a call, you never know what's going to happen."
Tannehill managed to revive his career with the Titans but wasn't able to get the team over the hump to a Super Bowl despite three playoff appearances.
He then struggled with injury and ineffectiveness over his final two years with the team, although he also had a terrible supporting cast around him, including awful offensive lines and lackluster receiving groups.
If the Packers don't want Love's injury to derail their season, they should definitely sign Tannehill, who gives Green Bay a better chance to keep the season on track than Willis does.
