Packers vs. Rams: Score, results, highlights from Week 8 game in LA image

Just as we all expected, the seesaw NFC battle between the Packers and Rams came down to a kick return.

It was a return that went sour for the Packers, as Ty Montgomery fumbled the ball with two minutes left and with Green Bay down two points. Los Angeles recovered and never gave its opponent another chance. Although there was some doubt for much of the game, the Rams (8-0) were able to keep their undefeated season alive, securing a 29-27 win over the Packers (3-3-1).

MORE: NFL Week 8 results, highlights

Jared Goff and Todd Gurley led a late scoring drive that ended in a Greg Zuerlein field goal to put the Rams ahead after they trailed for a majority of the fourth quarter. Green Bay also held the lead for the entirety of the first half, as Goff and the Los Angeles offense seemed baffled by the Packers' defense.

The Rams hit their stride in the third quarter, opening up their lead to as big as 10 points, and Goff ended up with 295 passing yards and three touchdowns. Gurley added 195 yards from scrimmage, including 114 on the ground.

Rodgers will be left wondering what could have been, as one of the league’s best architects of game-winning drives was robbed of another opportunity.

It doesn’t get any easier for the Packers, now third in the NFC North, as they will play the Patriots on the road next week. Next on the Rams' schedule is potentially the biggest threat to their undefeated season: the high-powered Saints.

Sporting News provided live updates during the Rams' thrilling victory.

7:20 p.m.: The Rams will face a third-and-15 with 7:35 left in regulation. They have converted on a couple of third-and-long attempts already. Let's see if this turns out to be more of the same.

7:05 p.m.: The Rams take it 50 yards down the field, but a third-and-7 pass is stopped well short of the first down marker and this will be kept at a one-possession game.

End of third quarter: Rams 23, Packers 20

6:56 p.m.: TOUCHDOWN, PACKERS. You can't stop Aaron Jones. The running back takes it to the house from 33 yards out to cut it back to a one-possession game. Rams 23, Packers 20.

6:49 p.m.: TOUCHDOWN, RAMS. The Goff to Josh Reynolds connection strikes again. A 19-yard connection puts Los Angeles up by two possessions. Rams 23, Packers 13.

5:53 p.m.: Looks like we will have another review on the following play. Gurley bobbles a pass heading out of bounds and it's ruled incomplete, but the booth will review to determine if he kept two feet in. For the second straight play, the call is reversed. Rams have first-and-goal at the 3.

5:46 p.m.: Goff with a deep pass down the field to Brandin Cooks that is called an incompletion but will be under review. Looks like he had his hands under the ball. The play is indeed overturned and the Rams will have the ball at the Packers 35.

5:41 p.m.: SAFETY, RAMS. After being pinned at their own goal line, Aaron Jones is tackled by Mark Barron for a loss, getting the Rams on the board. Packers 10, Rams 2.

5:39 p.m.: Jared Goff has not played well so far today. He is just 6 of 15 for 69 yards. Five drives, five punts for the Rams. Pretty surprising considering how strong their offense has been all season.

5:23 p.m.: And the fake doesn't do much other than give the Rams a few extra plays. Goff throws three straight incompletions, the last of which was dropped by Gurley. Hekker uncorks a real punt this time and pins Green Bay at its own 4.

5:22 p.m.: It's a fake! Punter Johnny Hekker stuns the Packers and completes a fourth down pass to keep the drive alive. Let's see if this boosts the Rams' offense.

5:21 p.m.: After Gurley is stopped for a loss on third-and-1, the Rams are now 1 for 5 on third down conversions.

5:12 p.m.: Green Bay's defense gets another sack to close out a drive as the Rams offense is still looking for answers.

End of first quarter: Packers 7, Rams 0

4:53 p.m.: The Rams' offensive line has not held up well. Goff has been sacked twice in two drives and the Packers provided pressure to force an incompletion on an earlier play in the drive. Another punt gives Green Bay the ball.

4:47 p.m.: TOUCHDOWN, PACKERS. Jamaal Williams powers it in from the goal line and the Packers strike first. Packers 7, Rams 0.

4:42 p.m.: On the next play, Rodgers finds Jimmy Graham for 22 yards over the middle. It's initially ruled a touchdown, but upon further review, Graham is called down at the 1 yard line.

4:30 p.m.: Running back Aaron Jones starts off strong on the Packers opening drive, carrying the ball three times for 28 yards, but a sack by the Rams on third-and-2 pushes them back 14 yards and well out of field goal range.

4:26 p.m.: Los Angeles kicks off and the Packers will start with the ball.

4:25 p.m.: Aaron Donald taking the field on his own before the game.

4:06 p.m.: Could we see Aaron Rodgers do Rodgers-like things today?
