Odell Beckham Jr. is frustrated he's not helping the Browns win.
Yes, he's also frustrated he's not getting the ball more and that Cleveland is 2-3 on the season, but most of all, he just wants to make a positive impact on the team.
"I hate losing, period," Beckham said Thursday, via ESPN. "Any time we lose and I don't feel like I did anything to help win the game, I'm gonna be frustrated. That's just the bottom line. I'm a winner in my heart and I hate losing."
Beckham has four catches for 47 yards over his last two games which is the lowest output in that span during his six-year NFL career.
Baker Mayfield understands his situation.
"He's frustrated when he is not getting the ball and we're losing. Why not be? He feels like he could help us win if we get the ball in his hands," Mayfield said. "You can't blame him. He's one of the best receivers in the league, and when he's not getting the ball, he always has it in the back of his mind of, 'What if I did get the ball and changed this game?' "
The Browns were a popular pick to win the AFC North this season. But through five games, Mayfield is completing just 55.9 percent of his passes and Beckham has just one 100-yard receiving game to go with one touchdown.
There are more reasons for the Browns' struggles, but these two were supposed to be part of Cleveland's resurgence, not an example of why the team isn't playing well.
There is still plenty of time left in the season, but with a string of tough games coming up against tough defenses in the Seahawks, Patriots and Broncos, the Browns are at a critical point on the year. While it would be understandable to lose at least a couple of their next three games, Beckham and Mayfield know they have to pick it up and the wide receiver is aching to impact a game.
"I just want to help. I was brought here to help. I felt like I was brought here to help this team win. That's all I want to do," Beckham said. "If it has to be handoffs, it's whatever. Just finding ways to have successful plays, not just get me the ball to appease me or anything like that. It's about having success within the game and within the team."
