After the New England Patriots and head coach Bill Belichick agreed to mutually part ways earlier this offseason, the coach was only really in on the open job with the Atlanta Falcons before they hired Raheem Morris to run the show. And, now, Belichick will have to wait until 2025 to get back into coaching.
He'll spend the 2024 season working with ESPN on the "ManningCast" of Monday Night Football and "The Pat McAfee Show" during the week.
This week, Sports Illustrated's Connor Orr released his annual list of predictions for the upcoming year, and one of them was about Belichick's future. Orr predicts that the eight-time Super Bowl champion won't be leading the Philadelphia Eagles or the New York Giants next season.
Here's what Orr wrote:
"We currently project Belichick as a Mike McCarthy replacement in Dallas, but there is a long season ahead of us. What if he follows Tom Brady’s blueprint and goes to Tampa Bay? What if he winds up replacing a coach in the AFC East and coaches against the Patriots twice a year? Belichick will be working somewhere as a head coach in 2025. "
Dallas offers Belichick a much better opportunity than New York does. They are a much more talented team, and they seem to have their quarterback situation figured out. Philadelphia would be a great option, but it wouldn't be surprising if the Eagles brass wanted to go with a younger coach to lead their team in the future.
Tampa Bay would be crazy, but no one gave them a shot to land Brady either.
Belichick would never, ever go to the New York Jets. so his only options in the AFC East would d be the Buffalo Bills or Miami Dolphins, and the latter would be a complete overhaul every thing they've built with Mike McDaniel and Chris Grier. Buffalo could make some sense. That's still a strong team with a top quarterback, and the ability to opportunity to beat New England twice a year might be the cherry on top.
