DeShone Kizer quickly ended up on a new team.
The Raiders claimed the 23-year-old quarterback off of waivers Sunday, the team announced. The Packers cut Kizer one day earlier.
The Browns originally selected Kizer out of Notre Dame in the second round of the 2017 draft. He threw 22 interceptions to just 11 touchdowns as a rookie and the team went 0-15 in his starts. Kizer appeared in three games for the Packers last season.
The Raiders, meanwhile, now have three quarterbacks behind starter Derek Carr with the addition of Kizer. Mike Glennon and Nathan Peterman competed for the backup spot throughout the preseason and both remain on Oakland's roster.
Raiders coach Jon Gruden praised Peterman multiple times during training camp.
“This Nate Peterman is growing on me,” Gruden said in late July. “He’s athletic. I know he has had some nightmare performances in the NFL but, when you watch the film you can see why. It’s not all his fault. He has some talent. He has some athleticism and experience. ... He’s smart and has done a good job. He has been consistent, and I think he’s starting to get his confidence back. We all need that.”
The Raiders will open the regular season against the Broncos on Sept. 9.
