NFL trade news: Seahawks send Frank Clark to Chiefs image

Frank Clark is Kansas City-bound.

The Seahawks have agreed to send their star defensive end to the Chiefs, the team officially announced Thursday.

“We’re happy to add Frank to our team,” Chiefs coach Andy Reid said, via the team's website. “Competing against him and watching his film, you can see how physical and impressive he is in both the run and the pass game. He’s young and has consistently played at a high level since he entered the league. Congrats to Brett and his team, as well as Frank’s representatives on getting this deal done.”

According to NFL media, Seattle will receive a first-round draft pick in 2019 and a second-round pick in 2020, and the teams also will swap third-round picks this year. In order to facilitate the deal, the franchise-tagged Clark has agreed to a new five-year, $105.5 million contract with $63.5 million guaranteed, ESPN said.

Sports Illustrated later broke down those numbers.

"I feel like I'm good. I wanted to be somewhere where I'm wanted, where I'm appreciated," Clark told ESPN. "I thank God that KC came in and showed that. ... In life you just want to be shown that you are appreciated sometimes and I feel like this was one of those things."

ESPN also reported that one of Clark's conditions was to be paid more than defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence, who recently inked a $105 million deal with the Cowboys. Since Clark will be getting $63.5 million guaranteed, he will earn more overall.

The move comes a little over a month after the Chiefs traded defensive end Dee Ford to the 49ers for a 2020 second-round pick.

Clark, 25, was selected by the Seahawks in the second round of the 2015 draft and was slated to earn $17 million on the franchise tag in 2019.

He is coming off his most productive season in which he registered a career-high 13 sacks.
