The Cowboys need a safety. They know it, and apparently so does the rest of the league.
Cowboys vice president Steven Jones told The Dallas Morning News he’s received calls from multiple teams regarding a number of players on the Dallas roster. Those teams are dangling secondary help to entice Jones into making a deal.
However, Jones hasn’t taken any bait and intends to wait for the right player, if any player at all.
“It’s got to be a safety that works for us,” Jones said. We’re not going to be in any hurry. We know we can go out and play really good defense with the guys we have.”

Dallas drafted Donovan Wilson in the sixth round to compete at strong safetywith free-agent addition George Iloka and Jeff Heath, who started all 16 games at the position last season.
Heath is well aware of the team’s desire to upgrade the position but told ESPN Dallas 103.3 earlier this week he welcomes the competition.
"That's what makes the NFL the NFL,” Heath said. “You always have to compete for your spot. I don't see it as a competition with other players. I see it as a competition with myself to try to be better than the year I was before. Improve on stuff I need to improve on. It's just a more enjoyable way to play rather than trying to look over your shoulder at all times."
Teams may have a hard time persuading Dallas to part ways with any of its players for safety help. Though the team kicked the tires pretty hard on Earl Thomas before he signed with the Ravens, the Morning News pointed out that the Cowboys are one of only eight teams in the league that hasn’t drafted a safety in the first or second round since 2013.
If the Cowboys decide to avoid the trade route and bring in veteran safety help, Eric Berry or Tre Boston could be potential fits.
