Tick, tock. Tick, tock. Time is slowly ticking away for NFL clubs to make their final trades of the season.
The 2023 NFL trade deadline is near, as teams are gear up for a second-half push. Through the first eight weeks, we have seen defending conference champions remain on top of the league, new contenders entering the conversation and a few disappointing squads who already look unlikely to make the postseason.
The trade deadline presents an intriguing opportunity for teams to either acquire pieces for a contending squad, or for struggling clubs to send off disgruntled players/pending free agents for a return.
A number of moves were made ahead of Tuesday's deadline, including cornerback J.C. Jackson returning to New England, edge rusher Randy Gregory joining the stout San Francisco defense and Philadelphia adding safety Kevin Byard to its secondary. However, there are plenty of big names still available that could be on the move.

Can NFL teams trade after the deadline?
NFL teams cannot trade after the trade deadline. Some trades may not be announced until after the deadline, but as long as the deal has been agreed to and filed to the league office before 4 p.m. ET, then the trade can go through.
After today, teams won't be able to complete deals until the new league year begins at 4 p.m. ET on March 13, 2024.
However, teams can agree to trades in principle before the league year opens. It's rare, but that has happened on a few occasions during the offseason. Fans saw it in 2021 with the Rams' trade for Matthew Stafford, and in 2018 with Washington's trade for Alex Smith.
