The league has held Saturday games in late December every season but one (2013) since 1970. This year, the Saturday showcase features a tripleheader with major playoff implications in all three games.
We start off with the Texans (9-5) visiting the Buccaneers (7-7), followed by an AFC East showdown between the Bills (10-4) and Patriots (11-3). Finally, the 49ers (11-3) take on the Rams (8-6) in the nightcap.
All three games feature teams with a .500 or better winning percentage, including three playoff-clinched teams and one looking to stay inside the playoff picture.
Here's a guide to the NFL's annual Saturday December tripleheader, including a full schedule, TV channels and start times for all three games kicking off Week 16.

Here's how to catch every game on Saturday.
Texans vs. Buccaneers
- Kickoff: 1 p.m. ET
- TV (national): NFL Network
- Live stream: fuboTV (7-day free trial)
The Texans head to Tampa Bay to take on the Buccaneers in Week 16.
Houston holds just a one-game lead over the second-place Colts in the race for the AFC South, and can move one step closer to clinching the division with a win on Saturday. Tampa Bay's coming off a dramatic come-from-behind victory over Indianapolis in Week 15 and has crawled back to .500 thanks to four straight wins.
The Texans can still nab the top seed in the AFC if they were to win out and get a little help over the final weeks of the season. Despite being eliminated from playoff contention, the Bucs are looking to finish the season strong and spoil the Texans' playoff hopes in the process.
NFL Network will broadcast the game with Rich Eisen, Nate Burleson and Joe Thomas in the booth and Melissa Stark on the sidelines.

Bills vs. Patriots

Buffalo looks to avenge its early-season loss to the Patriots as it heads to Foxborough, Mass. to take on New England.
The Bills have already clinched their second playoff berth in the last three seasons after not making the playoffs for 17 straight years. In order for Buffalo to win the AFC East, it'll need to win out and New England would need to lose out.
Since their 8-0 start, the Patriots have been playing average football over the past few months. New England is 3-3 in its last six games with all three losses coming against playoff-caliber teams. While New England may look mortal for the time being, it does have a history of switching gears come playoff time, so don't count Bill Belichick, Tom Brady and co. out just yet.
Saturday's game will be broadcasted by NFL Network with Mike Tirico and Kurt Warner in the booth and Pete Schrager on the sidelines.

Rams vs. 49ers
- Kickoff: 8:15 p.m. ET
- TV (national): NFL Network

San Francisco looks to gain an edge and move past Seattle for the lead in the NFC West as it takes on Los Angeles.
While the 49ers have already clinched a playoff spot, they hold the first wild-card spot in the NFC and face the reality of playing on the road to open the postseason despite their double-digit wins. A win coupled with a Seahawks loss would vault the 49ers into first place and move them closer to clinching a top seed in the NFC.
Los Angeles' playoff hopes aren't dead just yet. With eight wins under their belts, the Rams sit just two games back of the Vikings for the final wild-card spot in the NFC. LA will need to win out and the Vikings to lose out if it wants any shot at a postseason berth.
The game on Saturday will be broadcast on NFL Network with Kevin Burkhardt and Charles Davis on the call and Pam Oliver on the sidelines.
