The biggest storylines heading into Dallas Cowboys training camp have to do with the contract situations of two key players on offense, one of which is wide receiver CeeDee Lamb.
Lamb has ascended to the status of one of the best receivers in the NFL over his four years in the league, and he's coming off a career-best campaign in 2023 that saw him tally personal bests in receptions (135, most in the NFL), receiving yards (1,749) and touchdowns (12), which earned him a first-team All-Pro nod.
But, like his teammate, quarterback Dak Prescott, Lamb remains without a long-term deal ahead of what is a contract year for him. The good news for the Cowboys is they at least have some leverage over Lamb, which is not the case for Prescott.
In a recent article in which he makes statements and judges whether or not they are an overreaction, ESPN's Dan Graziano says he believes Lamb and the Cowboys will get something done before training camp, which starts in a few weeks.
I still believe the Cowboys will get Lamb signed to an extension in time for camp. And even if they don't, they'd have the option of using the franchise tag on him in 2025 since they aren't able to use it on Prescott. That gives them some leverage in the current negotiations.
As far as the aforementioned leverage is concerned, Graziano points that out in his write-up. With the Cowboys unable to use the franchise tag on Prescott, Dallas can now use it on Lamb if they can't get something done with him.
However, the Cowboys would be wise to get a deal done with Lamb sooner rather than later, as the price for top wide receivers will only continue going up like it has this offseason.
