These are desparate times for the Texans.
Houston dropped to 1-3 last week after a blowout loss to the Falcons, and is low on chances to make something of its season. The Texans have yet to do much well through four games. J.J. Watt is the anchor of their defense, but is being asked to carry that unit on his own. Meanwhile, Ryan Mallett doesn't look like the team's answer at quarterback.

If there was any time for Houston to steal a win and jump-start its season, Thursday night might be it. The Colts come in a battered team with starting QB Andrew Luck's status still in question. And while Indianapolis' 2-2 record puts it atop the AFC South, it has been far from impressive after barely squeaking by both the Titans and Jaguars. This week is a chance for the Colts to separate themselves in the division.
Houston and Indianapolis kick off at 8:25 p.m. for Thursday Night Football on CBS and NFL Network.
Colts at Texans straight-up pick
The 1-3 Texans are out of time. They were embarrassed by the Falcons, the quarterback situation looks horrific, and the Colts are begging to be beaten — and might not have Andrew Luck. Lose to them for a sixth straight time, and the Texans are toast. Texans 22, Colts 20.

Colts at Texans pick against the spread
Will Andrew Luck return and start? That question is why there's no spread. Reports are in his favor to play and give Indy a huge QB edge over Ryan Mallett. Behind J.J. Watt, Houston's defense isn't doing much, certainly not enough to offset a lack of offensive firepower. Colts win 20-16 and cover the spread.

Line: Colts -1
Total: 45
The Linemakers' take: With Andrew Luck's uncertain status after missing Sunday's game with a shoulder issue, this game was off the board for much of the week. The Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook opened it a pick 'em on Wednesday, but moved to Indy -1 within an hour. Coasts was dealing Indy -1.5. The Colts have been fortunate in wins the last two weeks, but are still 0-4 ATS this season. Houston (1-3 SU and ATS) is a bad team right now and will stick with shaky quarterback Ryan Mallett on Thursday, at least to start.
