The 2023 national revenue figure for the National Football League is in, and as you would expect, it's a staggering number. And, the Kansas City Chiefs and the rest of the teams in the NFL are getting a big check as a result.
According Kurt Badenhausen and Lev Akabas of Sportico, the NFL pulled in around $13 billion in national revenue during the 2023 campaign. Thanks to revenue sharing, that heaping pile of money will be split equally between all 32 teams, which means the Kansas City Chiefs are getting somewhere between $404 million and $425 million.
The reason for not having an exact number comes from the fact that four NFL teams reported four different numbers to Sportico. The four teams reported $402 million, $404 million, $418 million and $425 million.
All of those numbers have one thing in common, though: they are unfathomable amounts of money.
Sportico settled on the $404 million number, which amounts to a 115% increase over what teams received a decade ago. A similar increase is expected over the next 10 years, so the Chiefs could be getting an $800-plus million check come 2033.
The Chiefs actually pulled in more than the aforementioned total. That figure does not include the 34% of ticket revenue each team contributes to a pool that is split equally between all 32 teams. That gave teams another $20 million in 2023.
